Abstract

Investigaciones recientes en grandes sitios del período Formativo en la sierra norte del Perú han revelado el surgimiento de líderes sociales en el período Formativo Tardío, es decir, alrededor del 800-700 a.C. En este artículo, tomando como ejemplo el sitio de Pacopampa, donde el autor ha realizado excavaciones, se analizan las estrategias adoptadas por los líderes emergentes para mantener su poder desde la perspectiva del manejo de la memoria social, y se demuestra también la diversidad regional en las estrategias de estos líderes.
