Las generaciones del mundo según don Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayála

  • Jan Szemiński

Abstract

The "Nueva Corónica y Buen Gobierno¨ of Felipe Guaman Poma de Ayala can contribute to the understanding of Andean concepts of divinity and acts of creation. The ¨Corónica" contains vast portions of text which address God, while other sections describes different eras and worlds that were supposedly in existence before the Inca realm. Szemiński argues that such descriptions were written by Guaman Poma to explain the indigenous ideas to Europeans. Szemiński disagrees with the claim that the idea of five eras-epochs that Felipe Guaman Poma included in his account originated from European medieval concepts. He argues that this was a local, indigenous concept.
