Intentos de establecer relaciones diplomáticas entre Colombia y Marruecos en los años 1825 -1827

  • Andrzej Dziubiński

Abstract

Morocco has a long history of relations with the American states. Diplomatic relations with independent governments were preceded by a number of trade links. After the first wave of revolutions against Spanish colonial dependency the freshly formed states of South America participated in interesting events, which relate with their occasional maritime presence in the ports of Morocco. This had started with the 1821 arrival of the Venezuelan ship "Nuevo Congreso" in Tangier.
Dziubiński gives accounts of different occasions on which Columbian ships visited Moroccan ports. Their presence included attempts to establish diplomatic relations with the Moroccan government. Dziubiński judges this presence as diversion aimed at Morocco's neighbor and former Columbian sovereign, the Kingdom of Spain.
